Geoff began his formal training as a visual artist, his primary medium being painting, in Puerto Rico at La Liga de Arte and La Escuela de Artes Plasticas. His first exhibition, En Accion (2004), featured a series of paintings capturing the movement and enthusiasm of children playing soccer. The Latin influence of his early training continues in his often dramatic use of color.
He later began working with sculpture, sensing that it would inform his work as a painter – and it did. Sculpting has become a large part of his work. While his paintings are quite impressionistic and his sculptures abstract, there is clear interplay between them; the strength of form and line found on the canvas is the same one that drives his sculptures. The connection between the two art forms has gotten stronger in his most recent work as he continues to explore the form at the deepest layer of the painting.
Geoff’s career as an artist took him from Puerto Rico to Ireland, then to Madison, Indiana where he lived and worked from 2008 to 2014. He recently moved to Crestwood, Kentucky, just outside of Louisville, where he is in the process of creating a studio.
His work can be found at The University of Kentucky's Art in healthcare, throughout Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, New York, Puerto Rico, Ireland, England and Australia.
Geoffrey Crowe’s work is defined by motion and light transposing the world we know into powerful abstract images. He began his journey in 2004 in Puerto Rico with a show of children playing soccer and today many of his works focus around ballet and horse racing.
His paintings and colors are heavily influenced by the Caribbean in both color and texture. The element of texture is also carried across to his sculptures and their organic look and feel. In both his paintings and sculpture space and movement play a key role.
