Art is a journey and frequently an unplanned one.
Charcoal is a delicate medium especially when shipped with several gallons of paint. So, when a supply shipment arrived at my studio what I found was six boxes of charcoal pounded to dust by the paint. I dumped the charcoal into a bucket for a rainy day and forgot about it for several months.
Later, exploring new ideas I began to play with the charcoal by dipping my fingers into the powder and “finger painting.” Working within the limitations of one’s fingers, I focused on creating images in a minimalist style, but with a nod to classical drawings.
